Stowe Time Capsule

As Bob and I were ripping out carpet the other night, he was trying to tell me that we did not replace the pad the last time we recarpeted 10 years ago. I told him that indeed we did, and that I could prove it. My proof was this time capsule! Laila had come down to help me paint, and we decided to make a time capsule on the plywood flooring. I guess I got to be right this time.
We had traced all the kids hands with a sharpie and put their names and ages inside their hands. It was so strange to see that Leigh ann was the same age that Evan is now. Where has the time gone?

I am totally in love with the time capsule!!! I mean I know it was fun at the time, but even funner so much later. And 10 times as fun that you got to prove irrefultably (sp?) that you were right. Sometimes the planets just line up so NICE. I love that Laila was there at the time. It makes it even better. The new carpet on the stairs makes the stairs look refined and beautiful. You really notice the beautiful banister for the first time. I need pictures of the new house pretty badly. Inside and out. I am suffering without them!

I looked at the pictures without reading anything, so I was really confused at first. Had you done this at the new house? If so, why are Robbie's hands so small? Then, I read- and how cool is that! I love that idea! And maybe you should go over to the new house and do that again under the carpet...

Amber, We will definately be doing another time capsule at the new house! I could not have imagined how my children would have changed in 10 years. Sniff, sob.....

That is so cool, Andra, and I definitely agree that you need to "make your mark" (and I don't mean in the canine way!) before the carpet is installed in your new house!

I can't believe that you and Bob took out the old carpet. That's a lot of work! I thought just moving the furniture around was more than enough.

Your time capsule reminds me of when we got new carpet. Did I every show you guys pictures of that? We told the kids that they could draw with markers on the old carpet, and boy did they. We also made valentines for each other on the carpet, which was really fun! Of course everyone's socks were colored on the bottom from walking on the markered carpet....

I think I would be afraid that if I had done that, my kids would have thought "hey, it's cool to write on carpet!" And with a house full of new carpet to worry about I'm glad you did not suggest that sooner!
I am thinking we should trace more than hands this time... Lay out the kids and trace around them! Then let them color themselves. Now THAT will be fun!!!

True. My kids are old enough to know that coloring on the carpet was a once in a lifetime thing. My was it fun, though. Every time I walked through the living room and saw the huge valentines message from Russ on the carpet it made me so happy!

I say go with the whole body ideas in the new house--that would be such fun.

Im weighing in on the whole body idea with Cindy. Wouldn't that be cool. Have each kid lay down and trace them. Then in twenty years when you change the carpet you can really see how they were! That could be so cool! Im so excited by this that I am going to roll up my carpet and paint my kids on the hardwood floors. . . . . . .
