Dad spotted in Kentucky!

Dad and Ramona stopped by on their way back to Utah. Dad got to hold Cal for a little bit. I showed him how Cal bounces every chance he gets. Any time you pick him up he starts to jump up and down, since he was an infant. I asked dad if he had ever seen that before. He casually said, "Not since you were that age". It is amazing what passes through to our children!

Pelotonia

My impulse is to apologize for this post upfront, but I have to resist that impulse, be brave, and post it anyway. I'm a terrible salesperson, and I hope you all don't think I'm using the family blog for personal gain. But, as many of you know, my dad recently fought a brave battle against lymphoma and carcinoma, and just today I heard from my sister that my grandmother's cancer has spread. As you all know, I have a mother-in-law I never had the opportunity to meet. Many, many of my good friends and family members have been deeply affected by a cancer diagnosis. The frustration over this disease has led me to try to think of some way—any way—I can help.

Enter Pelotonia. Since his remission, my dad has raised thousands of dollars for cancer research by participating in Pelotonia, a grassroots cycling tour, to support Ohio State University’s research efforts to end cancer.

So this year, on August 20, 2011, I’ve decided to join him.

My participation in the 2011 Pelotonia provides me with an opportunity to do something to help make a positive difference for those diagnosed with cancer today and far into the future.

Please join me in this unique opportunity to be part of something truly great. ANY contribution, large or small, to help me reach my goal of $1,800.00 would be awesome. Together, we can help improve lives through innovations in research with the ultimate goal of winning the war against cancer.

This is not a donation to me or even the university, but a 100% tax-deductible contribution to cancer research at the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

So, if you can in any way support me, please access my Pelotonia profile on line by clicking on the link below. From there, click on the orange “Donate to My Ride” box and follow the prompts.

http://www.mypelotonia.org/riders_profile.jsp?MemberID=118019

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration of this important cause. Any support you can provide by Saturday, August 20, 2011, will be appreciated more than you know.

Love,

Amber

Brent is crazy!!!!

As crazy as he is, and as scary (and exhausting) as it was to climb this steep sand mountain in the dark the night before - the kids and the adults surely loved it!  It also made for some really fun video!!!
We have documented the fact that we are, indeed, a superior race.
Or maybe just insane.  The first set of buns in long khaki shorts in this video
is Dad.  71 years old.  Climbing every bit as well as we did.  He made it clear to the top
and did not have the heart attack.  Thank goodness!!!!

This one is my favorite though - Crazy Sand People!!!
Let's just say that some members in our family are much much more
adventurous than others!!!

Pictures from Laila's

First of all, Laila and I learned why they take newborn pictures when babies are, well, newborns!

Fortunately we did get a few good pictures.  First Preston:

And then Noah.  Who was not in such a good mood.

And then everyone together!

Utah County communities prepares for ‘imminent' flooding - ksl.com

Utah County communities prepares for ‘imminent' flooding - ksl.com

I'll say it has been one of the strangest weekends ever, culminating with the news being here today. I sure wish this was the end of it, but with the weather warming up, I think this is only the beginning!

I think I can safely blame Jeff - he recommended such a fantastic camera to Bob for me that I could not help but submit some photos to the news.  Maybe it was just a slow news day?

What started out as a facebook photo change ended up turning into a very beautiful tribute.

We were urged to change our profile picture to a one of our mother to honor her for mother's day.  So many people said beautiful things, I had to put them on for everyone.

Happy early Mother's Day!

"Mother, it is not ok to get high over pictures of babies"

I resemble that statement

Babies, Babies, Everywhere!

Babies, Babies Everywhere!!!

Mom and Dad used to tell an old story.  And since I am the author of the post,
I will also start out as the subject.  At the age of 2 years and 6 days, I was sent to stay
with Aunt Diane.  I adored her.  My memories all involve chocolate chip cookies baked
and eaten at her house.  I surely did not mind the spoiling I got there.
A few days later, Aunt Diane brought me home to not one baby filled bassinet, but two.
I stood, mouth gaping, wide eyed trying to figure out what I was seeing.  Then I began to run
from cradle to cradle saying "Baby, Baby, Baby, Baby, Baby"  until Mom quickly grew tired,
handed me back to Aunt Diane and asked if she could possibly take me back home.

Fast forward 39 years - I have a fantastic sister in law, Jenny.
We hit it off just right, but I have never known quite why.
Until last night.

We had the fantastic good fortune to see Laila's new babies in the NICU in
Salt Lake City.  They were kept in their own rooms which REALLY bothered Jenny.
As we looked at Preston, her mind turned to Noah, as we looked at Noah, her mind
turned back to Preston.  I know she may not have been saying Baby, Baby, Baby,
Baby as she walked briskly from room to room.

But I KNOW she was thinking it!!!!!

out how to take over the world

Cole, Cal, tomato, tomato

The hearth might be dirty
And there are toys on the floor
The child who swept the night before may, in fact
have been blind

But for a moment
there is sheer happiness

Because I adore these boys
who make things dirty
who leave toys on the floor
and who have not learned to sweep well

Today, I am counting my blessings!

We figured it out

We finally figured out how to get lots and lots of time with Dad & Ramona, and it has been SO MUCH FUN!

Find a new allergy treatment in your town for Dad that requires multiple visits.  Offer them a bed and food.  It's been so great!

Diet Soda Study

I don't know why I though this was so funny but I watched it like 30 times and couldn't stop laughing... I mean, did she not know the camera was there???

Monday, February 7, 2011

For those of you who didn't know Cal (and parents) spent 4+ days at the UK hospital where Cal received IV fluids for dehydration, Billi lights for jaundice and many many heel pricks for blood tests. He also had some swelling around his neck that the docs never identified. The experience was less than enjoyable for all involved. We were released Thursday afternoon. Cal has been gaining weight, eating, sleeping and doing his other business as he should. He sleeps a great deal which we had always heard about but never experienced. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers!
