this means you make breakfast, lunch (light, like sandwiches, mac&cheese, etc, dinner, maybe some desert. What is the going rule on snacks?

So Andra, what do we owe you still? Besides, I have van money for you now, too.

somestratt said...

I am answering on behalf of andra. Amber, you guys owe andra $1247.34. Of course, I am in charge with her, so I get a little cut of that!!!

uh... can i say that i wish we could be.
but when i do the current math (wait for it...)
$656 in fuel at current rexburg prices...
ooh do i feel bad for them 15 passenger stowes...
i hear there is some new Hydrogen production stuff on the horizon, though!

Amber,
We are square on the beach money. The only money owed is the van money. Thank goodness I don't know any GOOD detailers, or the gas might has equaled the detailing!

HOSTESS!!!
Of course, if we are going to vermont first, I am not sure I can take the hostess. Let's see - Jeff and Amber - Wanna fly a suitcase or two of twinkies? How bout Ben and Jenny? Dad and Ramona? I will be willing to get them but I don't know that they will survive the 100+ heat of vermont sitting in the van for a week. Give me some opinions here!

just the planning and anticipation is half the fun! I can't wait. I am having fun.

I might need to trade food assignments with someone--we still haven't decided but we might be staying for all of church on Sunday, which would put us arriving at the beach closer to 7 or 7:30.....

Until Ben and Jenny get tickets (pray for good prices) we will just plan on having Sunday evening arrival dinner and sunday morning departure breakfast individual. Get something on the way type of thing. Cindy would like to take Monday night, so that moves laila to Tuesday and me to Thursday. The new list looks like this:
Food assignments:

Monday - Cindy
Tuesday - Laila
Wednesday - Margaret
Thursday - Andra
Friday - Dad and Jeremy
Saturday - Jeff
Sunday arrival dinner, Sunday departure breakfast (light) - you're on your own!

Cindy, Laila and I have decided that we adults take on far too much work at the beach. This year, we will be teaming up older kids and younger kids for 2 days of chores. They will be responsible for cleaning the kitchen after meals on one day (only on the cooking side) and for cleaning up the living room area on both sides each evening.

The teams will be:
(speak up if you do not think your child will work well with someone else....)

Cindy Lynn - Mahon - Jared
Jason - Nate - Jenna
Robby - Elaina - Rachael
John - Josh - Justin
Levi - Leigh Ann - Carter
Brooklynn - Savannah - Lincoln

I will make a chart and bring it along with me so we don't get too confused!

I should just start another topic for all of this!
The adults responsible for cooking for the day will need to oversee the clean up of the kitchen and livingroom for the day.

I think this is a great idea. Plus, I know my kids will be less likely to leave messes and make messes if they know they will be the ones responsible for the clean-up!

Suggestion: How about if the ones cooking are responsible for clean up of the kitchen AFTER the meals. Any clean up of the kitchen area BETWEEN meals, and clean up of the living room area (all day) is done by the teams. Also, how about if the mothers (or fathers) of the team members are responsible for seeing that their child is doing what needs to be done.

I guess my only problem with this is that generally after cooking a huge meal and serving it I am bushed! Bob and I have trained our kids to be able to clean a kitchen pretty well, so I think that they will be able to handle cleanup after meals.
I do think it will be a definite must that the parents oversee their own children in the work being done.
Maybe Ramona has a good point - if Laila and Brent are cooking, and then are responsible for overseeing the cleanup crew, there could be hard feelings from the kids about being bossed by "not my parent".
We could each just use our own children to help us clean up, but some of us are lucky to have older helpful ones and some.... not so much.
Let's toss out some more options here!

I agree with you, Andra. If Russ & I have cooked, the least the kids can do is clean up. But I do know that one of my kids is ok being "bossed" around by other people and one isn't. So let's just put Josh & John to clean up on the day the Russ & I cook, ok? And Levi& his friend to clean on the day that Margaret cooks. Do you think there are any other kids that will have problems if an aunt/uncle are bossing?

somestratt said...

I think that we may just leave the cleaning un-regulated and just let the parents be responsible for asking their kids to be helpful in keeping things clean and helping when they get dirty as well as asking to have them help out with specific cleaning during the week. Too much regulation with Watsons tends to make grouchy Watsons.

is this line dead? I am weighing in. Unplanned means work is done by the parents only. A chart planned beforehand makes sure Andra doesn't end up doing everything! And, the parent of the oldest child should supervise, if needed, for instance, I will stay in and watch Levi clean. And provide apropriate threats about his driving and dating life to make sure that the work gets done.
As a parent blessed with older kids, having my kids be in charge on only the day I cook works for me very well if people want to go with that one. Many kids make many slaves!!!!
re nannas comment. . .as a cook, I don't want to do all cleanup on my cooking day too. bushed, with andra.
