Pop up blocker

Hey folks. What is a good pop-up blocker. We lost our free trial of Norton and have been getting a zillion, some not so good ( try to X out before it actually comes up.) We resubscriped to Norton, but do we need to do anything else for the pop-ups. What is the best? PLEASE help.

Definitely download and use Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer.
It's freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!
You can also use AVG free antivirus and Ad-Aware spyware or Spybot:search and destroy. All free.

Ben's right on the money here. Jeff is still the expert here but that feels like what he told me.

Back in the day... the day of the dinosaurs, when we had explorer, it wasn't safe for us kids to use the computer. But ever since we switched to Mozilla Firefox we haven't had a pop up (unless you allow it) for... ever.

Pretty amazing, isn't it?

see, I have used firefox forever, but lately it seems like our computer got bombarded with trash (viruses.) I think it is from Brent and Hunter downloading free games. Now I get popups on firefox too. I will follow Bens other directions too.

has anyone ever heard this new truism: you get what you pay for?

I looked it up on snopes. turns out to be a myth.

Laila,

Within FireFox click on Tools, Options, then the Content Tab. Make sure the Block PopUps box is checked. Open Exceptions and remove any sites you don't want or regognize.

Hope that helpeth,
Val

val/George is very wise indeed. Follow his advice. As for used to use firefox and now get popups. Isn't that like saying I used to use birth control but since I've stopped I cant seem to stop getting pregnant?

All correct. Firefox 2.0 has much more utility than 1.0. You need 2.0 to get all the good stuff that everybody is talking about. Here's the link.

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

Also, there are alot of tools you can use to improve firefox. Under tools/addons, you can add downthemall, video downloader, get video, add block plus...

They are awesome, but not perfect. Your input goes along way to make it better.

Hey, thanks to everyone for you input. I think that this will all help tremendously. Grant, how do i know if I have Mozilla 1.0 or 2.0?

about 2.0
click on menu for help, go to the last one "About Mozilla Firefox"
in that window it will say right under the big red Firefox letters what version.

On a related note, I am sure you all know about the best Internet filter out there but if you don't, downlaod K9 at http://www.k9webprotection.com/

It's the best I ever saw in my many years of IT and best of all, it's free.
